On September 29th, 2007, my life changed forever. My mom, Denise M. Chesney, passed away from breast cancer. She battled valiantly, but cancer finally took her life. Mom was only 42. She provided invaluable love to her family and community and had an unmatched zeal for life.

To honor my mom’s memory, my good friend, David Sheppard, and I started the Denise M. Chesney Memorial Bike Ride in 2015. Our inaugural ride took us from Seattle to Spokane. Thanks to the generous support of family and friends, we raised over $5,000 for the BCRF.

Last year, we rode from Seattle to Leavenworth with family and friends, raising over $8,000. This summer, we’re coming home again to host the third annual Denise M. Chesney Memorial Bike Ride and have set our goal at $10,000 – all going directly to BCRF.

David and I live in Japan and Taiwan respectively. Our time abroad has heightened our awareness of how much we value our families and friends – and how much more we can do to give back. This ride is an opportunity to show our love for those who have been affected by breast cancer and those who have supported us.

The festivities will kick off with a spaghetti feed and corn hole tournament for riders, family and friends graciously hosted by the Matous Family at their home on Friday, August 11.

On Saturday, August 12, riders will depart from Gas Works Park in Seattle and loop 50 miles around the gorgeous Lake Washington. Experience tells us there will be much camaraderie.

A post-ride celebration at Flatstick Pub in Pioneer Square will cap the festivities. "Putt for a Cure" will include a mini golf tournament, raffles and official DMC Memorial Ride apparel with proceeds going directly to BCRF.

The rider registration fee is $25 (please Venmo @d2chesney or @DavidSheppard15 or arrange to pay at registration). All riders who register by August 5 will receive a DMC Memorial Ride t-shirt. All riders are encouraged to raise at least $150. Prizes will be awarded to leading fundraisers. Email questions to dmcmemorialride@gmail.com.

Please join us by hopping on a bike, donating to the BCRF and attending the weekend festivities!

We’re excited to reunite with family and friends and have fun working together for a wonderful cause.

Thank you for your love, support and friendship.

On September 29th, 2007, my life changed forever.

My mom, Denise M. Chesney, passed away from breast cancer. She fought the battle valiantly and was in remission in early 2007. But the cancer came back stronger than even before and took her life.

She was only 42, but provided an invaluable amount of love to her family and community and had an unmatched zeal for life.

To honor my mom’s memory, my good friend David Sheppard and I started the Denise M. Chesney Memorial Bike Ride. The inugural ride took David and I from Seattle – where my parents spent their honeymoon and my home for two years – to Spokane – finishing at our beloved alma mater, Gonzaga University. Thanks to the generous support of family and friends, we raised over $5,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the leading breast cancer charity in the U.S.

Last year, we rode from Seattle to Leavenworth with a group of 15 family members and friends, raising over $8,000 for BCRF.

David and I have remained living abroad in Japan and Taiwan, respectively, but we believe in this ride and this cause so much that we want to build upon the foundation that has been laid. Our time abroad has heightened our awareness of how much we value our families, friends and communities at home – and how much more we can do to give back and express our appreciation. This ride gives us an opportunity to show our immense love for all those who have been affected by breast cancer and to those who have supported us.

This summer, we’re coming home again to the Pacific Northwest to host the third annual Denise M. Chesney Memorial Bike Ride. This year’s ride will take place in Redmond, WA on August 12, looping through the Snoqualmie Valley.

Please join us in the fight against breast cancer by donating to our cause or riding with us.

If you want to be a rider or have any questions, please email dmcmemorialride@gmail.com.

Our goal this year:

  • Receive at least 120 donations to our cause. We greatly appreciate any and all contributions.

We’re so excited to come home, reunite with our families, friends, and communities and have fun working together for a wonderful cause.

Thank you for your love, support and friendship.
